The late Oba Adesoji Aderemi, Ooni of Ife, is recognized for his involvement in the 1952 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.
The late Oba Aderemi reportedly led Nigerian delegations to the coronation, according to a presentation at the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
The presenter mentioned that the Queen had made Oba Aderemi a Knight of the Order of St. George in 1956 and that, in 1960, he was appointed Governor of the Western Region.
The BBC presenter said, “This is one from the family of Adesoji Aderemi who was Knighted by the Queen in 1956. He led the Nigerian delegation to the coronation when Wilson Churchill was prime minister.”
The presentation on the platform shows pictures of the late Ooni of Ife with Queen Elizabeth II and the British royal family at different times in London.
Oba Aderemi as the Governor of the Westen Region saw the creation of the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) and a host of landmark institutions.
Aderemi is noted for his peace-building efforts which made Chief Obafemi Awolowo, former Premier of the Western Region describe him as an ecumenical personality at his passage in 1980.
Queen Elizabeth on Monday was laid to rest as notable world leaders attended the funeral in Westminster Abbey.
