The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) eight-month-long strike has been suspended.

A member of the union’s National Executive Committee (NEC) confirmed the news to Channels TV in the early hours of Friday.

ASUU agreed to call off the strike after members of the union’s NEC met on Thursday night and lasted into the early hours of Friday.

After the Court of Appeal ordered its members to resume last week, the union scheduled the meeting to consider the next course of action.

Recall that the Court of Appeal ordered ASUU to suspend the strike before its appeal of the ruling ordering lecturers to resume work can be heard.

The Chairman of the state chapters and members of the national executive, attended the meeting which was held at the ASUU National Secretariat in Abuja.

ASUU has been on strike since February 14 this year.
