A tragic incident has left residents of Ideani Community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State in shock after three children were found dead inside the home of a female native doctor in Umuoduba Village.
The children, believed to be between the ages of six and 15, were discovered unconscious alongside another child who was found alive. The surviving child was immediately rushed to the hospital following the intervention of the President General of Ideani Community, Chief Paul Okoye, and the Divisional Police Officer of Ogidi Division. The child is currently receiving medical attention in critical condition.
Following the discovery, security operatives arrested the female native doctor and took her into custody as authorities began investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area, Stanley Nkwoka, also visited the scene to assess the situation.
Confirming the incident on Wednesday, August 5, the Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said officers responded swiftly after receiving a report and immediately moved the four children to the hospital for emergency care.
However, medical personnel later confirmed that three of the children had died, while the fourth victim remained admitted and under close observation.
According to Ikenga, the suspect is currently in police custody, while the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has taken over the case to conduct a detailed and evidence-based investigation into the deaths.
He explained that investigators are hoping to obtain information from the surviving child once the child’s condition improves, as the account could provide crucial details about what transpired before the tragedy.
The bodies of the deceased children have been deposited at a mortuary for preservation and autopsy as part of ongoing investigations.
The police command expressed condolences to the families of the victims and the Ideani community, while appealing to residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports. Authorities assured the public that updates would be provided as investigations continue.
