A man alleged to be a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik), Awka, Anambra State, was stripped naked and assaulted by an angry mob of students after a female student accused him of segxwal molestation on campus.
The incident, which occurred in front of the Chike Okoli Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies, was captured on video that has since circulated widely online, showing the female student emerging from an office building in visible distress, her clothes and hair in disarray, before collapsing to the ground in tears.
Students at the scene were heard shouting “Catch him! Catch him o!” as they rushed towards the alleged victim. The video also showed male students surrounding a naked man, whom they proceeded to beat and kick.
Unconfirmed accounts circulating online allege that the lecturer was found unclothed inside an office after the female student reportedly fled with his clothing while screaming for help, claiming he had attempted to coerce her into a segxwal act.
It appears from available footage and eyewitness accounts that the accused lecturer was not given an opportunity to respond to the allegations or present his own account of events before the students took matters into their own hands.
The university authorities had not issued an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report, and it remained unclear whether security operatives or management officials had intervened in the aftermath of the confrontation.
The incident has reignited debate around campus safety, due process, and the handling of segxwal harassment allegations within Nigerian tertiary institutions.
