Mixed reactions as photos from a Catholic church in Abuja celebrating mass using African cultural items surface online.
A cultural mass was recently held at St. Luke’s Parish Catholic Church in Abuja, which drew mixed reactions from Christians on social media.

Young men who followed the priests to the altar wore white singlets with a wrapper tied around their waists during the event. Wrappers were also tied around the females’ waists and chests, and they wore beads on their wrists, legs, and necks.
Some of the parishioners who attended the mass are seen carrying calabashes and having white chalk dots on their bodies, which are typical of “herbalists” in Nollywood movies, in pictures that have surfaced online.
While some Nigerians praised the church for celebrating African culture, many others chastised the parish.
Some Christians on Twitter expressed their displeasure, saying that mixing African culture with Christianity is improper.
