Drug Lord Flees As Embattled Kano Commissioner Withdraws
Share

A notorious drug dealer who was recently released on bail by the Federal High Court in Kano, Suleiman Danwawu, has allegedly gone into hiding.

This has left his surety, Ibrahim Namadi, a Kano State Commissioner, in imminent danger.

Recall that Namadi, who is the current commissioner for Transport in Kano, used his position to stand as the narcotrafficker’s surety.

Following public condemnations and controversy generated by the report, sources told Daily Nigerian that the commissioner called Danwawu, requesting to see him urgently.

“When Danwawu noticed the public uproar that his bail had caused, he switched off his phones, left the commissioner in the lurch and refused to show up,” said a source.

The commissioner issued a statement on Friday evening withdrawing the suretyship following the disappearance of Danwawu.

In a letter titled and addressed to the deputy chief registrar of the Federal High Court, Kano, Namadi said: “APPLICATION FOR WITHDRAWAL OF SURETYSHIP OF THE DEFENDANT IN RESPECT OF CHARGE NO: FHC/KN/CR/93/2025. FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA VS. SULAIMAN AMINU”, the commissioner said he withdrew the suretyship to protect his image.

“I hereby intend to withdraw as a surety of the above mentioned person who is standing trial before this honourable court of the alleged offence.

“My withdrawal is based on personal grounds and also to protect my image and dignity as a public servant.

“I hope my application will be considered accordingly.”

Meanwhile, the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the alleged involvement of the State Commissioner for Transport in the controversial bail of suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Aminu Dan Wawu.

The directive follows widespread public outrage after reports emerged that the Commissioner’s name appeared in official documents facilitating the suspect’s release.

Reacting to the development, the Kano State Governor, in a statement on Saturday by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, set up a special investigative committee chaired by Barrister Aminu Hussain, his Special Adviser on Justice and Constitutional Matters, to look into the matter.

The committee is mandated to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and recommend appropriate actions with immediate effect.
