Alleged Certificate Forgery: PDP Tells Abuja Court To Disqualify Kwara Gov
Share

On Thursday, the PDP asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to rule that Kwara Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq is unable to run for governor of the state in 2023 due to suspected certificate fraud.

The PDP requested an order barring the All Progressives Congress (APC) from running a candidate for governor in the election in an originating summons submitted to Justice Inyang Ekwo.

The party further urged the court to issue an order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to delist Abdulrazaq’s name as an APC candidate for the 2023 Kwara governorship election in the lawsuit with the file number FHC/ABJ/CS/1324/2022, which was submitted on August 4 by the party’s attorney, Paul Erokoro, SAN.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), INEC, Governor Abdulrazaq, and the APC are the first through third respondents, with the PDP serving as the plaintiff.

The party questioned whether Abdulrazaq’s affidavit in support of his personal particulars (Form EC9) and the accompanying documents published by the INEC contained false information to aid his educational qualification to contest the 2023 governorship election in the state in violation of Sections 177 (D), 182(1)(j), and 285(14) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended); Sections 29(2) and (4) of the Electoral Act, 2022.

The party further urged the court to declare that the WAEC certificate submitted by Abdulrazaq and presented by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to INEC was forged.

The matter, which was mentioned on Thursday, was adjourned by Justice Ekwo until Oct. 5 for hearing.
