The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested Famotemi Toluwani Timothy, an Ekiti state-based Disc Jockey, for allegedly impersonating musician Habeeb Okikiola, commonly known as “Portable.”
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by EFCC spokesperson Wilson Uwujaren, the suspect was apprehended on Thursday, September 29, 2022.
Naijalamp gathered that Timothy, a resident of Igede-Ekiti in Ekiti State’s Ifelodun Local Government Area, allegedly opened an Instagram account with the name “Zazoo Omolalomi Portable” and claimed to be the singer.
According to investigations, the suspect contacted one of his victims, Adebayo Adedimeji Lukman, who owns a club in Offa, Kwara State, on social media and presented himself as “Portable” before agreeing to perform at the club for N1 million naira.
The suspect requested that 80 percent of the money be paid before the event, and Adebayo reportedly paid the sum of N790,000 (Seven Hundred and Ninety Thousand Naira) into a bank account number provided by the suspect.
However, the self-styled artiste,“ Portable” did not show up at the event, which was held on February 18, 2022 and eventually blocked all means of communication with the suspect.
“The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the statement added.
