Osun State Government has announced the appointment of Prince Olayemi Yekinni Omisore and Prince Rafiu Oyekanmi Mosobalaje as Olu of Awolowo Town and Olupo of Oluponna respectively.
Recall that with the passing of Oba David Olajide Omisore on January 5, 2022, the stool of the Olu of Awolowo in the Ife South West Local Council Development Area of the State fell vacant.
In addition, on January 4, 2022, with the passing of Oba Emmanuel Oyeleso Oyebamiji, Fadare II, the throne of Olupo of Oluponna in the Ayedire South Local Council Development Area also fell vacant.
The state government stated that the succession to the stools of Awolowo and Oluponna towns followed the registered Chieftaincy Declarations of 2021 and 2007 respectively in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs. Funke Egbemode, following the State Executive Council meeting on Monday.
The announcement claims that Prince Olayemi Yekinni Omisore was chosen as the Olu of Awolowo-elect after emerging as the only contender at the Kingmaker sessions on August 24, 2022.
In a same spirit, Prince Rafiu Oyekanmi Mosobalaje was unanimously chosen as the Olupo-elect during a meeting of the Kingmakers on August 30, 2022.
The two appointments are effective right away.
