Governor Yahaya Apologizes To Christians In Gombe
Share

The Gombe State governor, Muhammed Yahaya, apologized to the Christians in the state earlier today without specifically mentioning what he was apologizing for.

The governor declared that because people are fallible and prone to making mistakes, he thought it was essential to ask for forgiveness and a new beginning.

Governor Muhammadu Yahaya tendered the apology while having a meeting with the Gombe state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the dining room of the state’s Government House.

Ahead of the governorship election scheduled for March 11, in which Governor Yahaya is seeking re-election, there were reports that audio-visuals and letters urging Christians to stop supporting the governor have been making the rounds in the state.

Those behind the materials are claiming that the governor allegedly despises Christianity.

Also, some groups in the state are said to be unhappy over the appointment of Beatrice Iliya as Chief Justice.

In his comments on Saturday, Governor Yahaya stressed that the guiding principle for supporting a candidate “should be centered on achievements and infrastructural development that has a direct benefit to the people, not on feelings”.

Amidst that, the governor promised to make amends to the Christian community for any wrongdoing and to refrain from committing similar errors during his second term in office.

He said, “I and my government may have made mistakes, as in every human endeavor. I sincerely ask that the group disregard and refocus the state’s growth.”
