Osun NLC Joins Strike, Electricity Staff, NURTW Withdraw Services
Share

Osun State’s electrical personnel has stopped providing services as of Sunday at midnight in compliance with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) directive for industrial action.

Additionally, members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) will join the strike on Monday.

The industrial action is coming in response to the government’s failure to implement and sign into law a new national minimum wage demanded by the union, as well as its refusal to reverse the recent electricity tariff hike, among other grievances.

Dominic Igwebike, the Acting General Secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), issued a statement on Sunday directing union members to comply with the NLC’s directive.

“All National, State, and Chapter executives are requested to start the mobilization of our members in total compliance with this directive to ensure the Government does the right thing as stated above,” the directive partly read.

Igwebike further encouraged union leaders to collaborate with the State Executive Councils (SEC) of the Congress in their respective states to ensure a successful action. “The withdrawal of services becomes effective Sunday, June 2nd, at 12:00 midnight,” he confirmed.

According to THE WHISTLER, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, the Osun State NLC Chairman, disclosed that members of NURTW and other affiliate unions will join the strike on Monday.

He added that a strict compliance committee will be established to enforce the strike directive across the state.
