I Expect Fairness – Sen Ireti Kingibe Says As She Apologizes To Colleagues For Walking Out Of Senate Chambers (Video)

Sen Ireti Kingibe, the lawmaker representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has tendered an unreserved apology to her colleagues after she angrily walked out of the Senate Chamber in protest.

Kingibe, after apologizing, added that she expects fairness in the Senate for everybody and expects to get the kind of concessions given to others during plenary.

The FCT lawmaker, after apologizing and making her point known, went ahead to read her motion as approved by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

“I apologize to my colleagues for walking out on them, i expect fairness in the Senate for everybody; concessions are given to other people I expect them to be given to me also,” Senator Kingibe said.

As earlier reported, a disagreement between Senator Ireti Kingibe and Senate President Godswill Akpabio made the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) lawmaker walk out in protest during plenary on Thursday.

Senator Kingibe wanted to bring up a motion concerning the demolition of Paul OSA Ogbeboh Estate in Abuja for discussion during the day’s plenary, but Akpabio wouldn’t allow her to do so.

Akpabio noted that the motion was not listed on the order paper for the day, and the lawmakers were already discussing matters listed for the day’s session, hence could not go back as such would contravene Senate procedures.

Despite her attempts to argue her case as a matter of urgent national importance, Kingibe was unable to convince the Senate President otherwise.

This prompted Kingibe to leave the chamber in protest.

After her return and apology, Senator Kingibe urged the Senators to pass a motion instructing the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to put a stop to the demolition of the Abuja estate in question and set up a committee to investigate the matter.

She also urged the Senate to invite Wike and other concerned stakeholders in the matter so the lawmakers can make informed decisions regarding the issue.
