United States President Donald Trump has stated that he deserves to be given a Nobel Peace Prize.
According to him, he spearheaded the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.
Trump stated this on Tuesday at the White House during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“They will never give me a Nobel Peace Prize. I deserve it but they will never give it to me,” Trump said when asked by reporters if he thinks he should get a Nobel Peace Prize for bringing back American hostages held by Hamas.
American-Israeli dual national, Keith Siegel, was among three hostages released by Hamas after more than 15 months after he was taken captive by the group.
Israel and Hamas had agreed a ceasefire and hostage release deal following 15 months of war.
Recall that eighteen Israeli hostages and 583 Palestinians have been set free since the exchanges began on January 19.
Hamas also confirmed on Tuesday that negotiations for the second phase of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement has started.
However, Trump on Tuesday suggested that the US “will take over” the Gaza Strip to level it and rebuild the area.
He lamented that the Gaza Strip has become “a symbol of death and destruction for so many decades and so bad for the people anywhere near it”.
