Kano State Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services, Major General Muhammad Inuwa Idris (Rtd), has resigned from office.
The retired military officer did not disclose the reasons for his resignation. His departure was confirmed in a statement by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the spokesperson for Governor Abba Yusuf.
“The Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has accepted the resignation of his Commissioner for the newly created Ministry of Internal Security and Special Services, Maj. Gen. Muhammad Inuwa Idris (Rtd),” Tofa said.
The governor acknowledged the former commissioner’s contributions, particularly in establishing the ministry’s framework.
“The Governor expressed his deep gratitude to the retired Army General for his service to the state within his short tenure, acknowledging his contributions to the initial take-off of the ministry,” the statement added.
Governor Yusuf also praised Idris as a dedicated public servant and a patriotic Nigerian.
“We thank Major General Muhammad Inuwa Idris (Rtd) for his unwavering commitment and contributions to the development of Kano State right from his days in the military career.
“We wish him a peaceful and fulfilling retirement as he transitions into a well-deserved rest from public service.
“His tenure, though brief, has been credited with laying a solid foundation for the ministry’s take-off, which the governor believes his successor can build on to set a pace for operations of the new Ministry,” the statement further read.
Idris, who was appointed in August 2024, was the first commissioner of the newly established ministry. His resignation makes him the second member of the Kano State Executive Council to step down in 2025, following the earlier resignation of Mohammed Diggol, Commissioner for Project Monitoring and Evaluation.
