Former Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, George Nwaeke, has vowed to present evidence of alleged public funds theft under the administration of suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara when summoned by security agencies.
Speaking at a press briefing on Saturday, Nwaeke accused the Fubara-led government of large-scale misappropriation, describing the financial irregularities as unprecedented.
“The level of stealing of public funds and assets witnessed in the last two years is mind-boggling,” Nwaeke alleged. “I cannot disclose all my evidence to the media, as some are sensitive. However, I will provide full details to the appropriate authorities when required.”
The former civil service chief further claimed that Rivers State received its highest-ever federal allocations within this period, yet funds were allegedly siphoned at an alarming rate.
In a related development, during a press conference in Abuja on Friday, Nwaeke accused Fubara of orchestrating the burning of the Rivers State House of Assembly. He alleged that the governor instructed his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, to execute the attack and personally handed him a bag of money for the operation.
“I was in the Government House when Edison was given a bag of money for that operation,” Nwaeke stated, adding that he was unsure of the exact amount contained in the bag.
However, Fubara has strongly denied the allegations, dismissing Nwaeke’s claims as politically motivated. The suspended governor stated that the former Head of Service had been “compromised” and “coerced” into making false statements against him.
The allegations have intensified political tensions in Rivers State, with observers calling for an independent investigation into the claims.
