The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its 2023 governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, on Monday, declared their support for President Bola Tinubu as their preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
This was announced during the official campaign flag-off of the PDP for the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North federal constituency bye-election held in Sagamu.
State Chairman of the party, Abayomi Tella, said the endorsement of Tinubu was based on regional solidarity.
“We will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Though he is in the opposition, let us support our own from the Southwest. Our support is for Tinubu, and we will stand by him. We are ready to give him our votes. The whole of the Southwest will give him our votes.
“We are going to support him. We will give him our votes. All we want in that election is fairness and justice,” Tella stated.
Speaking at the event, PDP’s former gubernatorial candidate, Ladi Adebutu, maintained that the party has no personal issues with Tinubu’s leadership but would not spare Governor Dapo Abiodun over alleged poor governance in Ogun State.
“I was with the President in January and I told him that we have no issue with his leadership and candidacy.
“We, however, have an issue with bad governance in Ogun State. That is why we must have this platform to challenge bad governance,” Adebutu said.
Adebutu stressed the importance of winning the upcoming bye-election to strengthen the PDP’s position in the state, recalling that the party had won 34 out of 35 wards in the federal constituency during the last election.
He added that the ruling APC had lost goodwill due to its performance in governance.
PDP’s candidate for the bye-election, Bolarinwa Oluwole, called on Governor Abiodun to ensure a peaceful poll free of electoral malpractice.
The party’s National Vice Chairman, Kamorudeen Ajisafe, officially presented the PDP flag to Oluwole as the party’s candidate to replace the late Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, who passed away in January.
It is worth noting that the party has also inaugurated a 55-man campaign committee, chaired by Hon. Damilare Bello, while Arc Kayode Adebayo will serve as the Director-General.
Despite the endorsement of Tinubu for 2027, Adebutu assured supporters that the PDP remains committed to challenging the APC’s dominance in Ogun State and restoring what he described as “good governance” for the people.
