Former First Lady Patience Jonathan has urged her husband, ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, not to contest in the 2027 general election, describing the task of ruling Nigeria as overwhelming.
This comes amid growing speculation about Jonathan’s possible return to politics. While the former president has hinted at a potential 2027 bid through various Instagram posts, he has neither officially declared his intention nor denied the rumors.
Speaking at a recent event, Patience Jonathan said her husband has already served as Nigeria’s president and questioned the need to seek office again.
“The stress of Nigeria is so much. If God manages to bring you out of it, you should glorify God and thank Him for His marvelous work. The Lord has taken you there once; why do you want to go again? Me, I won’t go o,” she said.
She added that she now enjoys peace and youthfulness since leaving the Aso Rock Villa and emphasized her desire to focus on love and family.
“I need peace and love, I want to share love with you. May God bless us, oh,” she said.
Goodluck Jonathan served as Nigeria’s president from May 6, 2010, following the death of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, until May 29, 2015, after winning the 2011 election.
Since leaving office, he has remained a respected figure in Nigerian politics, fueling speculation about a possible comeback in 2027.
