Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has stated that his administration is committed to providing high-quality education to Osun children in order to safeguard their future.

In Osogbo on Thursday, the governor revealed this while introducing teaching materials for the state’s public primary and junior secondary schools and one Sienna van, six minibuses, and 31 motorbikes for school surveillance.

The unveiling is coming ahead of the commencement of the new academic session, which will take off across the state by Monday, September 22, 2025.

The items procured through the Osun State Universal Basic Education Board, and unveiled for distribution, also include 30 sets of 300 WATS Solar Panels, 110 pieces of Mathematics teaching kits, 100 sets of interactive electronic boards, 215,000 exercise books (60 leaves), and 125 sets of computer systems.

The government also procured 8,000 cartons of chalk, 49,140 copies of English test books, 100,000 higher education (80 leaves), 5,000 copies of Jolly Phonics pupils’ books and 7,500 copies of primary school diaries.

Speaking during the ceremony attended by the head of schools, top government officials and parents, Adeleke, who was represented by Secretary to the State Government, Mr Teslim Igbalaye, noted that education remains a top priority of his administration.

“Today’s flag-off marks the distribution of new instructional materials across our schools. These include exercise books, notebooks, chalks, markers, textbooks in core subjects, and over 12,000 sets of furniture. With this, the burden of pupils carrying chairs from home is now history. Education remains a top priority of our administration. Since assuming office, we have consistently invested in raising the quality of learning in our schools. With your support, we have made significant progress.

“Between 2022 and 2024, our government paid counterpart funds to UBEC from 2019 to 2024, which previous administrations left unattended. We’ve refurbished over 400 classrooms in 139 schools. Supplied more than 12,500 sets of furniture for pupils, students, and teachers.

“Earlier this year, we also secured approval for the 2024 UBEC/SUBEB Action Plan, now under implementation. It covers the construction of 333 classrooms, boreholes in schools, toilets, perimeter fencing, ICT facilities, monitoring vehicles and motorbikes, as well as additional furniture for teachers and learners,” Adeleke said.
