President Donald Trump has announced punishment for any individual involved in burning the US flag.
This announcement comes amid the US government shutdown on October 1, 2025, over congressional legislation for the 2026 fiscal year.
In a Truth Social post, President Donald Trump announced that any individual apprehended for burning the US flag will be immediately arrested and is subject to one-year imprisonment.

It would be recalled that former president, Joe Biden’s administration faced backlash for displaying a rainbow-colored Pride flag alongside American flags at the White House during Pride Month in 2023.
It’s worth noting that the US government shutdown, which began on October 1, 2025, marks its first shutdown in six years.
The first US federal government shutdown started on January 20, 2018, coinciding with Trump’s first year in office.
The shutdown stemmed from an impasse over Trump’s demand for $5.7 billion in federal funds for a US-Mexico border wall.
