A self-proclaimed commander of the Biafra Liberation Army, widely known as C-ROZ, has shared his emotional experience following the sentencing of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to life imprisonment by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
On 20 November 2025, Justice James Omotosho delivered the landmark judgment, convicting Kanu on terrorism charges.
The decision has since sparked widespread reactions, ranging from grief to celebration, across various communities.
C-ROZ recounted his visit to towns and cities to gauge public reactions to the court ruling.
In a statement, he said, “I removed my mask, as did three of my comrades. I was shocked to see some people rejoicing. I asked them what had happened and why they were celebrating.”
According to C-ROZ, the people he spoke with said the celebrations were due to the end of the sit-at-home order imposed by IPOB. “Sir, are you the only one who doesn’t know that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been convicted?” they reportedly told him.
He expressed deep concern over the responses, adding, “I felt deeply hurt. I asked them what they believed was the reason behind everything MNK is facing. They kept quiet. I reminded them that he went through all these things because he wanted to help our people.”
C-ROZ stressed that Kanu’s sentencing affects not only the IPOB leader but the wider community, urging citizens to focus on their collective wellbeing rather than individual pursuits. “Without life, none of those things matter,” he said.
Despite the sorrow surrounding the verdict, C-ROZ urged the public not to be discouraged. “MNK will still find justice. It is only in Nigeria that a person can be convicted under a repealed law—one that no longer exists,” he remarked.
He encouraged supporters to remain calm, steadfast, and courageous while awaiting further developments. “I will continue my work, and in time, everyone will see what comes next. May God guide us all,” C-ROZ concluded.
