Man Allegedly Beats Wife To Death With Generator Belt To Marry Pregnant Side Chick

The family of a mother of three has called for justice following her death, which they allege resulted from sustained domestic violence inflicted by her husband over several years, with the final and fatal beating occurring in January this year.

The deceased, Etunim Henrieta Ebere Sunday (née Eboma), an indigene of Idumu-Oza Community in Agbor Kingdom, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, died on March 24, 2026, weeks after she was allegedly beaten into unconsciousness by her husband, Mr. Ebere Sunday, of Alisimie, Agbor.

Speaking with Ika Newspaper, the family patriarch, Mr. Friday Eboma, alleged that his son-in-law had subjected Etunim to repeated and severe beatings throughout their marriage, a pattern of abuse her family said they were largely unaware of until after her death.

“Ebere Sunday beat Etunim to death so he could marry another woman he claimed was pregnant for him,” Eboma alleged.

He recounted that the decisive incident took place on January 23, 2026, when, according to the couple’s children, Ebere Sunday locked their mother inside the house and allegedly flogged her with a Lister generator belt until she lost consciousness. She was subsequently taken to the General Hospital in Agbor for treatment but never fully recovered, and died two months later.

“It was only after her death that we discovered she had been enduring severe and frequent beatings in her marriage,” Eboma said, adding that the abuse reportedly extended beyond the home to the deceased’s shop on Imudia Street, Agbor.

The deceased’s younger sister, Blessing, disclosed that she had received a distress call from Etunim prior to her death and had travelled from Lagos to Agbor in response. “My sister was tortured to death by her husband. Before her death, she lived in fear and trauma due to constant abuse,” she said.

The Eboma family stated that attempts by the accused’s relatives to resolve the matter through informal channels had been firmly rebuffed, insisting that Ebere Sunday must formally account for the circumstances surrounding their daughter’s death.

“We have resolved that he should come with his people to explain the circumstances that led to our daughter’s death,” the patriarch said, vowing that the matter would not be allowed to rest.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident. Efforts to reach Ebere Sunday for his response were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
