The father at the centre of the domestic violence controversy involving Big Brother Naija All Stars winner Ilebaye has broken his silence, alleging that his daughter’s behaviour changed dramatically after she won the reality television competition, triggering a deteriorating relationship that he says eventually culminated in the violent incident that landed him in police custody.
Emmanuel Odiniya, who remains in detention while receiving medical treatment following the May 9 confrontation at their Abuja home, said the root of their estrangement lay not in a lack of love but in what he described as Ilebaye’s growing refusal to heed his guidance after her rise to fame and fortune.
“Ilebaye’s issue started after she left the Big Brother house. What led to the incident wasn’t that I didn’t love my daughter, and she is one of my best children,” he said, adding that he had contributed significantly to her campaign during the show, mobilising votes on her behalf.
He alleged that following her victory, he grew concerned about the calibre of friends she kept and certain lifestyle choices she made, and that his attempts to caution her were consistently rebuffed with insults. He further claimed that during one confrontation, she struck him with an air conditioner remote, drawing blood, and that rather than retreat when he approached her, she stood her ground aggressively.
Odiniya also alleged that Ilebaye declined his request for financial assistance to travel to Dubai for a medical check-up, and accused her of introducing hard substances to one of her younger brothers, a development he claimed resulted in the teenager’s expulsion from school.
The allegations add a fresh and contested dimension to a case that has already generated significant public interest, with investigations by the FCT Police Command still ongoing.
